WindForce PLC has constructed and operated a number of mini hydropower plants across Sri Lanka, as well as 2 located in Uganda. These 10 plants have a total capacity of 26.3 MW, and generate an average of 110.4 GWh annually. What’s more, the plants collectively save an estimate of 78,300 MT of CO2 emissions.

HYDRO POWER PROJECTS

ENERGY RECLAMATION MHPP 0.8 MW- SRI LANKA

WindForce has 100% stake in the Energy Reclamation (Pvt)Ltd. plant, which is located in Sitagala, Sri Lanka. This plant was commissioned in April of 2019, and has a total capacity of 0.8 MW. The plant generates an average of 3.5 GWh of energy annually, and saves an estimated 2,500 MT of CO2 emissions.

TERRAQUA INTERNATIONAL MHPP 1.3 MW- SRI LANKA

Located in Uda Malibada, Deraniyagala, in the Sabaragamura Province of Sri Lanka, the Halwatura Ganga mini hydro power plant is a project under Terraqua International (Pvt)Ltd. The plant has a total capacity of 1.3 MW. The open-air type right bank power plant has a 0.8m³/s design flow & 185 m net head to provide a 46% annual plant factor. The project was commissioned in February of 2009.

GURUGODA MHPP 2 MW- SRI LANKA

The Ganthuna Udagama mini-hydro power project is situated in Ganthuna, Aranayake, Kegalle district of Sri Lanka. It has an installed capacity of 2 MW. The open-air type right bank power plant has a 0.65 m³/s design flow & 220 m net head to provide a 40% annual plant factor. This project was commissioned in March of 2010.

VIDUL MADUGETA MHPP 2.5 MW- SRI LANKA

This mini hydro project was constructed under Vidul Madugeta (Pvt)Ltd. and is located in Madugeta, Neluwa, in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. This is a 2.5 MW project which commenced construction in March 2012. The open-air type right bank power plant has a 21.8 m³/s design flow & 15 m net head to provide a 40% annual plant factor. The plant was commissioned in November of 2013.

TERRAQUA KOKAWITA MHPP 1.3 MW- SRI LANKA

The Terraqa Kokawita mini hydropower plant is a completed project located in Kokawita, Kalawana. The open-air type right bank power plant has a 9m³/s design flow & 17 m net head to provide a 34% annual plant factor. This 1.3 MW project was commissioned in June 2012.

The Melanka Power Moraketiya (Pvt) Ltd. mini hydropower project was constructed in Bulathwatta, Haputale Division within the Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat area of the Badulla district. The plant has a total capacity of 3.8 MW. The open-air type right bank power plant has a 3.8 m³/s design flow & 117 m net head to provide a 26% annual plant factor. The project was commissioned in February of 2014.

PEAK POWER MHPP 2.0 MW- SRI LANKA

The Maskeli Oya mini hydropower plant is situated in Maskeliya, a town in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was constructed under Peak Power Delta (Pvt) Ltd. This is a 2.0 MW project with an annual energy output of 7.5 GWh. The project was commissioned in May of 2016. This open-air type right bank power plant has a 0.45 m³/s design flow & 56 m net head to provide a 42% annual plant factor.

H.P.D. MHPP 3.2 MW- SRI LANKA

This power plant is located close to the Dambulu Oya reservoir in Sri Lanka, which is situated in Dambulla of the Central Province. This is a 3.2 MW project with an annual energy output of 16.5 GWh. The identified location of the weir is on the Dambulu Oya reservoir, a tributary of the Mahaweli river in Dambulla. The design flow of the plant is 27 m³/s and the plant factor is 32%. The project was commissioned in December of 2016.

MAHOMA MHPP 2.7 MW- UGANDA

The Mahoma Small Hydropower Project is located in the Burahya Sub-county in the Kabarole district. This project has a capacity of 2.7 MW. It operates by diverting water from the Mahoma river with a head of 90 m with a design flow of 3.7 m³/s to generate with 48% plant factor. The project was commissioned in October of 2018.

ZIBA MHPP 7.6 MW- UGANDA

The Kyambura Small Hydropower Plant is located on the Kyambura River in the Rubiziri district in Southwestern Uganda. The plant was commissioned in July of 2019. The key project structures comprise a concrete flow diversion weir and intake, a pebble basin for flushing coarse river bed material, a 2.7 km headrace canal, incorporating a settling basin tank, forebay, 0.95 km of the penstock, and a surface power station. The power station has a combined installed capacity of 7.6 MW and an estimated plant factor of 52%.
